
Started career with Bears in 1949 and would not finish
it until 1975 with the Oakland Raiders at the age of 48 (one month before his
49th birthday). Played quarterback and kicker for the Bears. Still leads club
in number of consecutive games with a score, and ranks fourth in team history
in total points scored. Retired in 1959 when George Halas told him he was too
old to continue, then went on to play in 16 more seasons with the Oilers and
Raiders. Elected to the
Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1981.
